Protein Strawberry Banana Smoothie
A protein-forward chocolate strawberry-banana smoothie. Whey and skyr push the protein up; strawberries and banana keep it near-zero fat. Good pre- or post-workout, or as a breakfast.
Ingredients
1 large smoothie- 1 scoop (~30 g) unflavored whey isolate
- ~360 g (1.5 cups) unsweetened soy milk, or other milk
- 1 medium banana (~120 g), frozen
- ~110 g (about 3/4 cup) frozen strawberries
- ~70 g (about 1/4 cup) plain skyr or Greek yogurt
- 1-2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Method
- 1Blend the powder first
Blend the whey isolate with the milk first, until smooth, before adding anything else. This keeps the powder from clumping around the frozen fruit.
- 2Add the rest
Add the banana, strawberries, skyr, and cocoa. Blend until smooth, adding a splash more milk or water to thin, or a few ice cubes or more frozen fruit to thicken.
Notes
The weights are a starting guide, not exact requirements - adjust to taste and to your macro targets. Soy milk is used here because it holds more protein than most plant milks; dairy or Ripple work too, while almond/oat will drop the protein. Strawberries keep it low-fat and mild; blueberries also work. Avoid raspberry/blackberry if you dislike hard seeds - they don't break down in a blender.
